Soya chunks 

From adding them to rice pulao to mixing it with veggies in salads, soya chunks have found their place in our lives

What are these chunks exactly?

Basically, soya chunks are made from defatted soy flour, a by-product of extracting soybean oil and are quite dense nutrition

Soya chunks are known for its various health benefits:

  • It is known for high protein content- its exceeds eggs, meat, and milk.

  • It is known to reduce the risk of osteoporosis in menopausal women and also ease other symptoms as it’s a good source of isoflavones.Since it’s a good source of omega- 3 fatty acids and fiber, it can benefit in lowering down cholesterol levels in a body.

  • It enhances bone health and digestibility.It’s a good source of minerals namely- manganese, iron, calcium, and magnesium.

  • Due to good fiber content, it helps you keep a close check on your body weight and fight diabetes.Its high content of magnesium has shown results in fighting insomnia.

  • It’s also a good source of vitamin b, vitamin-K, riboflavin, and folate.

It’s a saying that all good things come in small packages so the amount of soy to be consumed is small. It is recommended to consume not more than 30 gm on a daily basis. Choose good quality soy. 

Here is the way I Like to make my soya chunks, mostly I make curry out of Soya Chunks.

Ingredients

1.5 Cups soya Chunks

1 litre Water

1 tsp Salt

2 tsp Vinegar

1/4 th Cup yogurt (to Marinate)

2 Onions 

3 -4 Tomatoes

4 -5 tsp Oil 

4 -5 Cloves of Garlic

½ Inch Ginger 

¾ tsp Garam Masala

1 tsp  Kasuri Methi

¼ – ½ tsp Haldi Powder

1 Tbsp Coriander Powder

½ tsp Red Chilli Powder

½ tsp Black Pepper Powder

½ tsp Cumin (Jeera )Powder

1tsp Cumin seeds 

1 cinnamon 

4 -5 Cloves

Method:

  • At first in one medium pan boiled water with some oil and little vinegar 

  • Once water is boiling turn off stove and add soya chunks and lid the pan and rest it for few minutes 

  • You see after few minutes soya chunks will be mostly very double the size 

  • Squeeze the water out of soya chunks don't press it too hard or it'll break 

  • Keep the soya chunks inside for while you prepare the yogurt 

  • Take your yogurt in a small cup add all dry masala in it ( salt , red chili powder,  coriander powder,  Garam Masala powder,  kasuri methi,  jeera powder,  black pepper) and mix all together, add soya chunks and keep it a side for while about few minutes.add Boiled Soya chunks and let it get Marinate 

  • In one skillet add some oil once oil is all heated add Whole masala in it ( Cumin seeds,Cloves, cinnamon) 

  • Add chopped Onions and cook for few min add Ginger Garlic paste,salt  ,turmeric powder and cook till onion get brown 

  • Add Tomatoes sauce, add salt,  cook till you start seeing oil getting spread from side * you can add some dry masal into this step too if you like extra spicy curry 

  • Add  marinated Soya Chunks into the curry Mix all together, and cook for another few minutes. 

  • Add some water if needed. 

  • Serve with partha ,Roti or rice
